Manager, Life Underwriting | Prudential Financial | Fort Washington, PA

The position may be located in any of the three home office locations,
Fort Washington, PA, Plymouth, MN, Jacksonville, FL or Newark, NJ.
Travel to Newark should be anticipated.
This position is aligned with Corporate Underwriting and reports to the
Vice President, Underwriting in Newark. The Corporate Underwriting area
is responsible for setting life underwriting policies and practices for
Prudential, as well as ensuring the consistent application of these
policies/practices. Legislative monitoring is also performed and
policies and procedures and forms are developed to ensure underwriting
compliance with state regulations. Support of training efforts and
development and maintenance of instructional materials is also an
integral part of this area's responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
- Complete special studies, case reviews and other research activities
to support risk management and underwriting policy-setting efforts.
- Provide underwriting subject matter expertise to internal and
external partners including Compliance, Marketing, Distribution,
Operations, Law and Claims.
- May exercise underwriting authority up to level's established company
retention limits. Provide opinions on complex case referrals from senior
underwriters and ensures consistent application of established
underwriting policies.
- May have supervisory responsibilities within Corporate Underwriting.
- Ensure that all underwriting instructional materials accurately
reflect current policies and are coordinated with operational
procedures.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- The incumbent should have a strong underwriting
background (4-7 years) and an in-depth technical knowledge of
underwriting and risk selection principles.
- A thorough understanding of current underwriting operations and
processes is required.
- Strong analytical/decision making skills are critical.
- Excellent communication skills are essential to effectively interface
individually with internal underwriting associates and corporate
partners; and more broadly in the performance of training activities.
- The individual should have experience working with distribution
associates, and exhibit strong leadership qualities.
